    The Texas Military Department Best Warrior Competition brought together 28 members of the Texas Army and Air National Guard as well as partner Czech Republic and Chilean service members. Texas Air National Guard Senior Airman Chase Barnett, 136th Security Forces Squadron member, was one of those participants who conquered the grueling four-day event Feb. 28 - March 3, 2018 at Camp Swift near Bastrop, Texas.

    The morning started early on March 2, 2018 for Texas Guardsmen and their state partners taking part in the 2018 Texas Military Department Best Warrior Competition. By 4 a.m., competitors were already charging uneven terrain on a 12-mile march, lugging 35-pound rucksacks over their shoulders. With only three hours to complete the task, the 28 participants forged their way to the finish-line only to be immediately shuttled to M-4 rifle and .50-caliber machine gun qualification ranges followed by a warrior task simulation field.
  • Sole female competitor battles for "best warrior"

    Of the more than 3,200 Airmen currently serving in the Texas Air National Guard, only eight were selected to compete at Camp Swift as part of the 2018 Texas Military Department Best Warrior Competition. Among the selectees, Tech. Sgt. Jennifer Brown, 273rd Cyber Operations Squadron education and training specialist, Texas Air National Guard, stood out from her peers chosen to participate. Not just for her skill and abilities in qualifying to represent her unit, but also as the only female competitor overall.
